The Mothers of Invention
Bess Abraham - bess@thenoblo.com
An artist by trade, Bess Abraham knows how to think creatively. That’s why it
shouldn’t come as a surprise that she helped to develop an ingenious, yet simple way
to keep beach umbrellas anchored to the sand. Abraham, 41, has used her flair for the
artistic to create special occasion cakes for upscale restaurants and decorate pastries
for a leading organic caterer. Along with her husband, she also co-founded BESS, a
high-end fashion and accessories line worn by the likes of Lady Gaga, Jennifer Lopez,
Marc Jacobs, and Mary-Kate Olson. She lives in New York City with her three kids,
husband, and pit bull mix.
Kathleen Pisano - kathleen@thenoblo.com
The constant concern that one of her children would be hurt by a flying beach
umbrella inspired Kathleen Pisano, 40, to create Noblo — a simple tool that keeps
the shore staple anchored to the sand on windy days. Keeping people out of harm’s
way is a theme that has followed Pisano throughout her life. The mother of three
boys fought forest fires in Alaska, served as a mate on a fishing boat, and now
works as a nurse at a rehabilitation center. The Noblo is an extension of her strong
dedication to safety issues. Pisano lives in Eatontown, N.J., with her husband and
children.
